One of the most valuable resources we control is our time; once it is gone you can never get it back. When we are younger we tend to take this for granted, and it is no wonder with something this valuable there are so many books and articles on how to optimize and utilize this time. However, a piece that is sometimes lacking with these words of guidance is that they take a narrow focus…they only look at you and how you use it. Let me make a suggestion, take the focus off of yourself and see how you can use your time and share with others. This may seem counterintuitive; especially when you feel that you have no extra time at all, but the only way you are ever going to increase your time is if you invest it with others.
If this is something you haven’t done before, it may seem hard at first, but just like getting back into shape don’t try and go all out. Bite off small chunks. Have a 30-minute coffee with someone in the morning; schedule a call to catch up when you know you have a bit of a drive ahead of you. It doesn’t take much to show someone you care, and over time you will find that these small deposits you have made will pay back bigger dividends than you could have ever expected. So think about how you can start to share your time today.
